What the heck is Digestive Fire?
First off, it is not indigestion. As a matter of fact, if your Digestive Fire is low, that is when you can get indigestion.
Ayurveda teaches us that disease starts in the gut and maintaining the well-being of our digestive system is the most important way to ensure optimal health and having strong digestive fire, called Agni, is the key.
When Agni is functioning the way it should, your body will effortlessly break down food, so it will be absorbed and assimilated into the body.
There are times when we have perhaps not followed Ayurvedic food combining practices (search “food combining” on my website) or quenched the Digestive Fire with too much cold liquids. This is when our body needs a little help and I turn to my CCF tea which increases Agni (Digestive Fire) and reduces Ama (toxins).
Toxins can be flushed through the body and the urinary system by drinking digestive teas every day. Removing toxins and increasing digestive fire improves every cell in our body.
In addition to reducing digestive problems an additional benefit is a strengthened immune system. All disease starts in the gut so when we improve our digestion our whole life improves. Here is my recipe to make a batch of CCF (Cumin, Coriander, Fennel) tea.
Mix the following and store in a sealed container.
1 part Cumin seeds (whole)
1 part Coriander seeds (whole)
1 part Fennel seeds (whole)
For a pot of tea, fill a tea ball or use 2tsp of the tea mixture
Let steep for at least 5 minutes.
For a cup of tea use 1/2tsp of the tea mixture
